Orofacial pain

Our clinicians focus on the diagnosis and management of complex pain and dysfunction associated with the head, face, jaw joints, mouth and neck.  Since it is generally difficult to manage pain conditions when patients cannot achieve restful sleep, we also treat sleep disorders.

Conditions treated include:

  • Temporomandibular disorder (TMD) or “TMJ” usually associated with jaw joint noises (i.e. popping, clicking), difficulty opening or closing the mouth, muscle pain and headache.
  • Neurovascular pain (Headaches) such as migraine, tension-type or trigeminal autonomic cephalgia (i.e. cluster headache).
  • Nerve pain such as trigeminal neuralgia, glossopharyngeal neuralgia, post-traumatic trigeminal neuropathic pain and persistent idiopathic facial pain.
  • Movement disorders such as focal oral dystonia.
  • Bruxism associated with clenching, grinding, or gnashing of the teeth while asleep or awake.
  • Sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea and snoring.

Oral medicine 

Our clinician focuses on diagnosis and management of various medical conditions that affect the mouth/head & neck region.

Conditions treated include:

  • Mucosal inflammation such as e.g. oral lichen planus, aphthous ulcers, glossitis, autoimmune conditions
  • Infectious oral lesions such as candidiasis or herpes Potentially malignant oral lesions such as leukoplakia/erythroplakia/erythroleukoplakia
  • Salivary gland disorders such as dry mouth/xerostomia, Sjogren's Syndrome, radiation-induced salivary dysfunction
  • Consultation for oral pathology and/or biopsy
  • Oral manifestations of systemic diseases, cancer therapies, drug side effects
  • Burning mouth syndrome
  • TMD and neuropathic pain
