Periodontics
Periodontal disease (gum diseases) is characterized by disease-causing bacteria; red, swollen and often bleeding gums; and infection below the gum line. Periodontal pockets form around teeth when bone and other supporting tissues are destroyed. Periodontal disease left untreated may lead to tooth loss and contribute to disease processes outside of the month such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease and other serious conditions.
Our periodontists specialize in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of periodontal disease and the replacement of teeth by dental implants.
Services include:
Scaling and root planing (deep cleaning): Periodontal disease is characterized by bacterial deposits (plaque and tartar) on the tooth. This procedure removes those deposits from your tooth above and below the gum line, reducing periodontal pockets that form around your teeth due to the disease process.
Pocket reduction surgery: If you are experiencing advanced periodontal disease, pocket reduction surgery may be indicated. This procedure allows access to hard-to-reach areas under your gum line and along tooth roots where bacterial deposits accumulate deep within periodontal pockets. We offer the full range of pocket reduction surgeries to include osseous surgery and flap surgery.
Regeneration procedures: Periodontal disease destroys the supporting bone area of your teeth. Where indicated, we offer bone grafting and several current related technologies to rebuild bone and other tissues around your teeth.
Dental crown lengthening: Dental decay and tooth fracture are two indications for this procedure. The adjustment of your gum and other supporting tissues ensures your tooth is prepared to receive a dental restoration for long-term success.
Cosmetic procedures: If you would like to improve the appearance of your smile, we offer a number of options to enhance the way your teeth and gums look. Esthetic crown lengthening will expose more of your tooth structure, creating an even and broader smile. Root coverage procedures, including soft tissue grafts, will correct gum recession and help prevent further recession.
Dental implant: A dental implant serves as an artificial tooth root. It is placed into your jaw to replace a missing tooth or one significantly affected by periodontal disease. We offer the full range of implant solutions to meet your individual needs. One or multiple implants are used to replace a single tooth (crown) or several teeth (bridge or denture).
The quantity and quality of the jaw bone is important for implant success. We offer services such as sinus and ridge augmentation to prepare your jaw for implant placement.
Laser therapy: Lasers are used in a variety of ways within dentistry. We offer several procedures incorporating laser therapy including treatment of periodontal disease, esthetic procedures and biopsies.
Sedation: Many people experience anxiety and fear of pain during dental treatments. We offer several options for sedation including nitrous oxide (laughing gas) and medications taken by mouth or given intravenously. During consultation, we will determine the best option for you.
